This is an issue affecting about 10% of women of childbearing age. Infertility could be due to a number of causes such emotional stress, structural blockages, or hormone imbalances. Your acupuncturist will be able to assist you in understanding which of these factors affects you. Treatment usually last around 3 months, and is safe to do in conjunction with conventional fertility procedures.

Generally characterized as a stress related disorder. Emotional upset can lead to symptoms of gas, bloating, cramping, alternating constipation and diarrhea and abdominal discomfort. Food sensitivities may exacerbate this type of condition as well. This is generally a fairly easy imbalance to correct and should take between four and six treatments.

An inflammatory condition of the plantar fascia, the connective tissue that supports the arch. This is a repetitive use injury that is aggravated by running or walking excessively. Pain is usually felt upon weight bearing first thing in the morning. Once the fascia warms up the pain may be relieved only to return again after a period of activity. Acupuncture, electrical stimulation, and massage are integrals parts of healing this condition.

This is very common trauma, especially to athletes. The sprain can vary in severity from grade I to III depending on how torn the ligaments of the outer ankle are. Symptoms include bruising, swelling, pain, and weakness of the ankle. Treatment efficacy will depend upon severity of the injury and proximity of the treatment to the accident.

Characterized by numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness of a portion of the leg. Sciatica results from impingement of the sciatic nerve from Disc Herniation, SI Joint Dysfunction or Piriformis Syndrome. Depending on the cause of the sciatica acupuncture offers a very safe and effective means for treatment.

Also referred to as “jumper’s knee” is an inflammatory condition of the patellar tendon. This will often flare up with changes in activity such as increase in mileage, speed, jumping, or hills. There will be sharp localized pain below the patella during exercise. Acupuncture, rest, and ice are a good combination to treat this condition, as well as massage on the quadriceps to correct biomechanical imbalances.

This is inflammation of the trochanteric bursa of the hip, with complications involving the gluteal muscles and IT Band. This is generally considered a repetitive use injury although it can be due to trauma as well. There will be localized pain with pressure, difficulty lying on the side at night, and increase in pain with activity. Acupuncture typically offers a favorable prognosis with this condition.

Generally viewed as a repetitive use injury of the wrist. The thumb, index, middle, and half of the ring finger will have numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness, which often times is worse at night. This is due to entrapment and compression of the median nerve that travels through the “carpal tunnel”, a narrow passageway through the wrist. Treatment may involve acupuncture anywhere from the neck and shoulder down to the fingers. Prognosis depends on the severity and duration of t

Otherwise known as Frozen Shoulder is a condition in which the connective tissue of the glenohumeral joint of the shoulder becomes inflamed. The result is pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion of the shoulder from anywhere between 5 months to 3 years. This condition affects more women than men, and usually people over the age of 40, but is of unknown cause. Alternative therapies such as acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic can help speed up the recovery process.

Conditions characterized by tendonitis of the flexors or extensors of the forearm due to repetitive use. There will be localized tenderness at either the medial or lateral epicondyle of the elbow with pain radiating down through the forearm. These two conditions are usually treatable with acupuncture, ice, and diet modifications.

This category encompasses many conditions including herniated discs, facet syndrome, nerve impingement, muscle strain, ligament sprains, and so on. Depending on the cause and/or severity acupuncture can be extremely effective. Your acupuncturist will be trained on when to treat and when to refer out for more extensive care.

Bacterial and viral infections are also able to be treated using Chinese Medicine. They are categorized as hot or cold conditions with heat symptoms being fever, sore throat, yellowish/brownish mucus, and thirst or sweating. Cold symptoms would be chills, body aches, white or copious mucus, and so on. Herbal therapy is an integral part of the treatment of colds and flus

Has become a prevalent part of our society these days. They can manifest themselves in many different ways from headaches, gastrointestinal issues to insomnia, and so on. There are lots of ways to cope with these emotional traumas such as meditation, exercise, and acupuncture. Acupuncture helps to calm the nervous system promoting a more restful, relaxed state of mind. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative and long-lasting.

Generally thought of in the Chinese paradigm as a weakness of the immune system. Allergens are present to everyone, all the time, but only a handful of people are susceptible to their effects. Acupuncturists will generally use a combination of acupuncture and herbs to both boost the immune system and expel the pathogen.

This is a tear in one of four tendons of the rotator cuff. These four muscles are the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and the teres. Their tendons stabilize the glenohumeral joint of the shoulder and are responsible for extension, rotation, and abduction of the arm. Injury usually occurs from stabilizing the body from a fall or overhead lifting resulting in a complete or partial tear. Acupuncture and physical therapy are fully capable of treating both.

As women age their estrogen, or “yin energy” begins to wane. They may notice hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, moodiness, and irregular periods as a result. From a Chinese Medical standpoint, it becomes necessary to clear heat out of the body and nourishes yin energy through the meridians. With a combination of acupuncture and herbs, treatment is usually successful in just a few visits.

There are many misconceptions about acupuncture and weight loss. In my professional opinion, diet and exercise will attribute to 80-90% of one’s health. There may be complications however, such as stress, hormonal imbalance, genetics, digestive dysfunction, and so on. These are the patients who will notice the biggest results with acupuncture. There is no “magic bullet” for weight loss. Hard work and time will reveal the biggest results.

This is a difficult condition to treat because it tests the patient’s will to quit much more than it will test the acupuncturist’s desire to help their patient. Despite rumors circulating about acupuncture, there is no “magic bullet” that will make a person never crave a cigarette again. There will be withdrawals and the patient must be strong enough to resist the urge to overcome them. At the end of the day, acupuncture helps to alleviate the stress associated with the quitti
